My BMI

I just check my BMI (body Mass Index) today.  I was shocked to find out that I am officially obese.  I have gained 7 lbs since I started this blog.  I am not saying it is the blogs fault.  I have not been motivated at all.  I am also addicted to sweets and cola.

My BMI is 30 and if you have a BMI of 30 or over you are no longer overweight, but you are now officially obese.  How did this happen?  I am not sure, but I think I have come to the realization that I am an emotional eater.  I notice that my other blog is all about food.  I did not set out for it to be, but that is what happen.  I have a love/hate relationship with food.  I love to eat it and hate what it does to my body.  You can not have a BMI of 30 and not have issues with food.

So now what do I do now?  Where do I go from here?  I know that I cannot do it on will power alone.  I am really going to think about this, and see what solution I can come up with.  To be continued...

Cannot lose weight

I feel like a failure, I cannot seem to lose weight.  That is why I have not posted in many months.  I don't know what to say.  I am thinking about taking this blog down.  I don't know.....

How to work out with a baby?

Here is a video of me trying to work out with my baby.  It is not as easy as they make it out to be, expecially when you have a busy baby.  Why are all the babies in the mom and me work out videos so good?  I do not know how the trainer get the baby to just sit there and do whatever the trainer wants them to do.  They need to make a mommy and baby workout video for the busy baby that does not just want to sit there while mom works out!  Here is my attempt of a sample of what that sort of  video would look like.

Walking with a purpose.

This is a book that I read to give me a purpose to exercise, but it did so much more than that.  This is my review of  Prayer Walk: becoming a woman of prayer, strength and Discipline" by Janet Holm McHenry:

Prayer Walk: becoming a woman of prayer, strength and Discipline" by Janet Holm McHenry is one women’s battle to overcome the physical pains of an earthly body and spiritual defeats of this earthly world. McHenry  has been there before and with her book she guides you to be a disciplined  prayerful walker with the ultimate personal trainer, Jesus.

McHenry starts off the book telling you her journey as she became a prayerwalker.  Throughout her book she will lead you to make time to prayerwalk,  explain why you should do it, and the importance of praywalking with a partner.   She also provides exercises and goes over the types of shoes to wear to keep your body healthy.   PrayerWalk  includes a Study guide with scripture references for small groups and a personal 30 day challenge as well.
I enjoyed reading  Prayerwalk and I like the ease of reading it.  More importantly it challenged me to be faithfully reading God’s work and to dive deeply into the motives behind my prayers to make them more God focused.   I think that this is a good book for anyone looking to get a little exercise by walking and wanting to deepen their relationship with God through prayer.

This recipe is delicious and nutritious

So I have tried this recipe a few weeks ago and my family loved it so much that they asked me to do it again. It is so good and juicy.  We ate the whole dish up.  YUM!

I have modified it a little to suit my family but the main recipe came from the D -life website.  http://www.dlife.com/diabetes/diabetic-recipes/Stuffed-Zucchini-Boats/r6272.html
I had to hurry up and take the photo before it was gobbled up!

Stuffed Zucchini pockets

3 to 4 zucchini
1 1/2 lb ground Beef or Turkey
1 onion that is finely cut up
1 carrot finely cut up
1/2 cup diced bell pepper
1 tsp  Italian seasoning
1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper
1 egg beaten
1 cup marinara sauce

1 cup mozzarella cheese (optional)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F

First:   Slice the zucchini in two, lengthwise. Hollow out the insides leaving 1 inch shell. Slice the zucchini in half crosswise to make 6 pockets. Chop the hollowed out middles into small pieces.

Second: Bring one big pot of water and zucchini halves to a boil for 5 mins.  Remove Zucchini from pot carefully and set aside.

While Zucchini is cooking.  Cook ground beef or turkey
for  about 7 minutes.  Take Beef or turkey out and set aside.  In same skillet cook onion for 5 mins, then add  carrots, pepper, and chopped zucchini. Itallian season, salt, pepper, egg, and ground turkey or beef and Marinara sauce.

Last Spoon the beef mixture into the zucchini boats and place in a baking pan. Bake in oven for 12 minutes. When ready to serve, sprinkle cheese over and serve.

*You can cook up the zucchini and the insides of the zucchini pockets mixture and refrigerate it until you are ready to add to the zucchini pockets and then bake as directed add 5 mins to the baking time.

Zumba: not for me.

So last night I we to our ladies work out group and we tried a Zumba work out.  It was harder then it looked.  Most of us had a hard time keeping up with the instructor.  Most of us also were not able to do the moves that the young girls in the video were doing.  Let me just say that I am glad that no men were watching (I want to be respectful to my husband).

I found a place to work out.

Today I joined a women's only small group at Hill Country Bible Church.  We are meeting once a week to do a bible study for 45mins followed by 45min workout.  It was so much fun and I was really sweating by the time we were finished.  The workout was a video of a Latin dancing workout.  I made a fool of myself trying to dance to it, but no one cared.    They even had childcare for my 8 month old.  It felt so good to work out!

Now I just need to find out what to do the other 6 days of the week!

How do you get the weight off?

I have cut back to no more an ONE cola drink a day.  The rest of the day I drink water.  I do have one cup of orange juice in the morning, but other than that it's water.  I have not lost one pound.  NOT ONE.

It is like the more I try to watch my weight and eat better.  The hunger I get.  I think I eat more when I am trying to watch what I eat than when I don't do anything at all.  What is that all about?

I cannot work out the way I want to and have been asking my hubbie if we can join a gym.  I have been calling around and seeing if their is one around us that has child care.  I am still doing research.  I will let you know how it all goes later.

What's For Dinner?

For breakfast I had  1 1/4 cup multi-grain cheerios and 1 cup of Orange Juice.  On the Cheerios box they had a code for a website that gives you work out options and recipes too.  It had some good information and I may check it out later!

For Dinner I decide to make a Turkey Pot Pie because I can make it ahead of time.  We have kids events tonight and now I don't have to come home late and try to cook dinner.

Turkey Pot Pie ( I am going to make chicken instead)
12 oz Turkey, breast, oven roasted, 56% less salt, fat free , diced (about 1 1/2 cups)
1/2 cup fresh mushrooms , sliced (or canned, rinsed and drained)
1/2 cup fresh chopped onion
1 cup Peas, green, sweet, frozen , thawed
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/3 cup low fat cheddar cheese, shredded
6 tbsp white all purpose flour
2 tsp low sodium baking powder
2 tsp dried parsley
1 cup fat free milk
2 eggs (or egg substitute)
2 tbsp fat free mayonnaise

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Combine the turkey, mushrooms, onion, peas, black pepper, and Cheddar cheese in a mixing bowl.
Divide mixture among 4 individual casseroles or (10-ounce) custard cups sprayed with butter-flavored cooking spray.
Mix together the flour, baking powder, and parsley flakes. Then stir in the skim milk, egg, and mayonnaise.
Spoon batter over the top of the casseroles and bake for 30 to 35 minutes.
Let casseroles set for 5 minutes and serve.

It was really good, but as you can see I added spinach  to make it a little healthier and because I love spinach!

Cutting back on bad foods

So yesterday I went shopping and bought all the Healthy meal that I need for one week. I made sure that when I went shopping that I was not hungry so that I would only buy what was on the list!  And I did just that.  I am a BIG regular soda drinker so I am committing to drinking only one soda a day.  This is going to be really hard for me since I usually drink about 5 or more soda's a day.

Each soda is 140 calories (Empty calories)

I am not sure why I crave sweets, but I crave sugar all day long!

Make a weekly menu!

I did not get to work out yesterday or today.  My daughter is sick and I am taking care of her and Little Man.  Because she has Rett Syndrome she cannot tell me what she wants so it makes it hard.

So today I decided that if I cannot work out then I am going to find some healthy meals.  I went on the website and found some healthy and nutritious meals. All you have to do is put in a search work like "Chicken" and it will give you a list of wonderful meals that have chicken in them.   I will let you know what meals I cook and how they taste.  I will try to include photos if I can.

I am planning my shopping days so that I am not wasting time.   I want to pick one day a week  that I do my shopping  (twice a month for a big shop and on the off weeks a little shop). It takes me a long time to make a menu and then to write my shopping list too.  Then I have to go and see if I have any coupons that match the products that I want to buy.  This can take me a whole day to do with the little ones always needing my attention.  It will all be worth it when I get a system down in place.

My numbers

I know that most of you like to know the NUMBERS. So here are my numbers:
I stepped on the scale today and it said I
Weigh 160 lbs.
Height 5'2"
Body Mass Index or BMI is 29.3 (I used this website to calculated my BMI:  http://www.caloriecontrol.org/healthy-weight-tool-kit/body-mass-index-calculator)

With a BMI of 29.3 I am overweight.  If my BMI goes up to 30 I would be obese ( that means if I gain 4 pounds I am obese).  So a healthy BMI is 24 or less.  That means that a healthy weight for me would be 136 or less.

My Goal is to lose 24 pounds!

DISCLAIMER:  I thought that I should tell you that I am still nursing my son.  I will not be able to lose more than 1.5 to 2 pounds a week without effecting my milk supply!

Let's get Physical

So today I tried to start working out.  I went on Netflicks and added a fitness video.   I put on my exercise clothes and my tennis shoes and pushed play.    The fitness video was a dance workout video.  I am so glad that no one was able to see me.  I had a lot of fat giggling around.  My 8 month old son was watching me make a fool of myself.  He kept getting in my way and I stepped on him a few time and had to stop to kiss his booboo.  The video was only 30 minuets but it was hard.  I had to take a small break and drink some water in the middle of it.  By the end of the video I was sweating and breathing hard.

The bad new is that I was so hungry that I pigged out on food that was not good for me and all those calories that I burned off came right back!   I really need to change my eating habits!

What happen to her, she used to look so cute!

I cannot take it any more. I was playing wii fit on the wii with my oldest son and my BMI says that I am on the border of being overweight and Obese.  Obese!  When did this happen.  I have been slowly gaining weight since my parents passed away.  But that is no excuses.  I now have an 8 month old and last week the scale said I gained 5 pounds.  Diets have never worked for me and I hate to exercise, but something has to change.

This is not a DIET.  It is going to be a change in my life.  I am going to have to eat differently, and add exercise to my life as well

I don't want to be a certian size or number, I just want my close to fit and to feel good about my self.  I need to take care of my children's mom, ME!
